VAR audios and clarification on Arturo Vidal’s kick to Arzamendia from Paraguay | VIDEO

Agitated second half in the match between Chile and Paraguay in the Qualifiers. There was everything during that period: goals, red cards, controversies and hot crosses. Of the latter, Arturo Vidal was involved in an action that, at the time, was claimed as expulsion for a possible attack against Santiago Arzamendia.

The live images of the engagement showed the ‘King’ kicking against the Guarani soccer player, who was lying on the grass. As soon as the action took place, there was a tumult near one of the corner flags. The main judge, Néstor Pitana, intervened so that it reaches adults. In parallel, the VAR analyzed the entire scene.

Just a few hours ago, Conmebol released the audios of the video arbitration in relation to the play that has Vidal and Arzmendia as protagonists. From the outset, the locution of the narration uploaded on YouTube clarified that “It is recalled that the VAR cannot intervene, by protocol, in yellow card plays”.

Immediately, while reviewing the replay in the cockpit, the chief technology officer came to the conclusion that the Chilean midfielder never hit the opponent. “Here he throws his foot, he does not hit him, let’s go ahead, look there he does not hit him”, he expressed and requested a new angle.

After the check from another perspective, the result was the same for the VAR referee and he stated: “At that moment he can’t hit, he throws his foot too, there is no contact of aggression”. Then, the assistant tells the Argentine Pitana to collect a hand from the Paraguayan and a free kick.

In this way, Vidal was not reprimanded for one of the most controversial actions in the clash that took place at the San Carlos de Apoquindo stadium. Charles Aránguiz did see the red for a double yellow for a blow against the Paraguayan Ángel Romero. Despite these circumstances, the cast of Martín Lasarte won 2-0 by goals from Ben Brereton and Mauricio Isla.
