Jordan suspects Iranian goalkeeper of being male

September 25, 2021. Iran’s women’s football team advance to the Asian Cup by beating Jordan on penalties, 4-2, with two saves from goalkeeper Zohreh Koudaei. Two months later, the Jordanian federation asks the Asian confederation to open an investigation: it suspects the Iranian player of being a man.

The president of the Jordanian federation, prince Ali Ben al-Hussein published a letter on Twitter and justifies his request by a “passive [de l’Iran] concerning gender and doping issues ”. Iranian coach Maryam Irandoust evokes a “pretext” of bad faith for “not accepting defeat”. The latter stands ready to “provide any document requested by the Asian Football Confederation”.

Zohreh Kouadei speaks of harassment and intends to sue the Jordanian federation. The Women’s Asian Cup is scheduled to take place in India from January 20 to February 6.
