Team 1 of Peru in Optimist obtained a silver medal in the South American Championship of Mar del Plata

Peruvian sport continues to reap triumphs at the international level and in recent days a pleasant news arrived from Argentina: Team 1 from Peru that participated in the South American Championship of Mar del Plata Optimist 2021 in Argentina managed to win the silver medal, then a solvent performance in the contest.

The presentations of the team made up of Arantxa Valdivieso, Diego Riofrio, Ana Sofía Bedoya, Salvador Marchena and Isabella Suazo were not easy, since there were very complicated rivals in the tournament. In the first round, the national athletes beat Uruguay 1 and then had to face Argentina 2, an opponent to whom they fell, but they were still in competition.

Later, the moment of the clash against Brazil 1 arrived, but the Peruvian group showed its power in the discipline and the classification for the next stage was consummated. Then, team 1 of the ‘Blanquirroja’ had two consecutive clashes with the squads of Argentina, who were looking to stay with glory at home.

First, Peru beat Argentine squad 3 and the possibility of winning the gold medal was very close. They just needed one more solid performance to clinch the crown at the Mar del Plata South American Championship.

However, Argentina 2, a rival that the Peruvian team had already faced, knew how to be forceful in the last race. In that final round, the home team achieved the necessary score to get first place.
