Algeria beat Tunisia in the final of the Arab Cup. The match ended 2-0 with so many scored in overtime, however, one of the details of the match that was much commented on in South America and especially in Argentina was the last goal.
The goal is very similar to that scored by River Plate against Boca Juniors in the 2018 Copa Libertadores final, which was played in Madrid. That game ended 3-1, also in extra time.
The Algerian Yacine Brahimi ran long meters from the field to finish before an empty goal, just as Gonzalo Nicolás MartÃnez did, in the final played at the Santiago Bernabéu stadium.
The similarity did not go unnoticed by River Plate fans, who commented on both on social networks. The press also echoed the goal, one of them the newspaper Olé from Argentina, which made a publication about it.
After 29 years, Algeria won the 2019 African Cup of Nations (CAN), whose next edition is scheduled for January and February 2022. The Algerians, who have not lost a game in the Arab Cup, won the title without its star, Manchester City midfielder Riyad Mahrez.
The tournament was played in six of the eight stadiums that will host the 2022 World Cup. For Qatar, the competition was a simulation of what will be the World Cup event in less than a year.
