After the fervent fight between the Moroccan team and FC Barcelona, the story ends with surprising news. Ez Abde has sent a letter to the Moroccan Football Federation in which he communicates his refusal to be called up by the Moroccan national team and his desire to become a player for the Spanish national team.
In the letter, Abde informs of his decision not to play with Morocco in the Africa Cup, which will be held between January 9 and February 6, 2022, and thus become an eligible footballer to represent Spain in international competitions.
A complicated decision for the 20-year-old player who has begun to have relevance in the Barça team. It should be noted that the Barça squad recently obtained Spanish nationality; and, after that, he officially resigned from the selection of his country of origin, with which he had not yet debuted.
Ultimately, Ez Abde’s decision favors the interests of Barcelona, who will not finally lose at the beginning of the year to the extreme, which has become a regular in Xavi Hernández’s eleven.
The option of Abde to try to find a space within ‘La Roja’ has taken Morocco by surprise, since the Football Federation of that country together with his coach Vahid Halilhodzic were sure of the player’s participation in the Copa de Africa.
Even before the letter sent by the winger, the coach of Morocco declared that Abde “is not Messi or Mbappé, but if he plays for Barcelona it is because he is a good player,” said the coach of ‘Los leones del Atlas’.
