The DT Awards recognize the reinvention of Alianza Lima for its 2021 title

Since 2009, El Comercio has delivered the DT Awards in recognition of the best athletes of the year both in soccer and in other sports in our country. In the current situation, the tribute is made on our online platform presenting the best of the year. In this first presentation, we have the best of Peruvian football, with Alliance Lima standing out above all.

From Hernán Barcos, as the best soccer player of the year and best forward, to Carlos Bustos, as the best coach, we present the winners of the DT 2021 Awards and then, the list of voters who chose the best of the year in national football .

Although it did not achieve the highest score of the accumulated, Alianza Lima closed 2021 with remarkable statistics. They only lost two of the 26 games played between Phase 1 and Phase 2. In this campaign, the Victorians were on an upward curve since the middle of the year and played a final where they were the most effective to take the title. The intimate football expression, which today unites experience and youth, will now have to make the big leap in the Copa Libertadores.

At 37 years old, the arrival of Hernán Barcos was intended to give hierarchy to a team that needed to start from scratch. However, the ‘Pirate’ was much more than that. By confirming the permanence of Alianza in League 1, Barcos demonstrated its validity as an attacker of international level. He scored 10 goals and gave 8 assists in the intimate season of 2021. His goal in the final against Cristal was the ideal closing for a player who came to the Peruvian tournament to make a difference.

He came to direct in League 2 and ended up being the best in First. Carlos Bustos had to change his strategy in record time: from the commitment to rise quickly to fight in League 1. Under his command, Alianza Lima quickly began its upward curve and quickly found strengths: from defensive solidity to unbalanced with experienced players from his lead. Bustos has earned not only the acceptance of intimate fans, but also has enough credit for Alianza, after a long time, to bet on a process.

He was part of that remembered Sub 20 of 2013: the generation of Renato Tapia, Wilder Cartagena and Edison Flores. Most of that group were able to quickly reach the first division until they reached the senior team. However, the Campos path was the most difficult. He alternated in second division teams and it was difficult for him to start in first division clubs. When he was invited to be part of Alianza Lima in League 2, he did not hesitate to accept. In the end, he not only stood out in the First Division, but he was able to make the great leap to the Peruvian team. At the age of 28, Campos awaits 2022 of the definitive consecration.

He returned to Alianza Lima after six years and made a difference in the last blue and white line. There are second parts that can have a happy ending and that is what happened with the Uruguayan player. Míguez, with his performance in the field, was not only essential for the good defensive work of Alianza, but he also gained the confidence to continue in an intimate store. There is so much projection with Míguez, that in 2022 his nationalization will have to be confirmed so that he does not occupy a foreign position.

‘Canchita’, as his coach Roberto Mosquera commented, this 2021 he not only excelled in local football and in international competitions, but also assumed the football leadership of the celestial team. Gonzales had a year round even with a goal from chalaca to Arsenal de Sarandí. In the Peruvian team, he also gained continuity in the calls of Ricardo Gareca. This 2022 should be the confirmation that ‘Canchita’ Gonzales will have a second chance in another league. His first challenge will be to stand out in the Copa Libertadores next year.

Barcos not only functioned as a ‘9’ scorer, but he also knew how to accommodate himself in all the attack zones of Alianza Lima. Its multi-functionality has been another winning card in the Bustos scheme this season. For the Copa Libertadores, the ‘Pirata’ will have to confirm his scoring record in tournaments such as the Copa Sudamericana. He was not the top scorer in League 1, but he did establish himself as the most influential of the champion team.

The Rimense forward debuted in the first team in 2019, but was only able to consolidate in 2021: 23 games and eight goals. At 21, Liza almost had a consensus as a revelation player for her appearance as an attacking solution at Sporting Cristal. Given the constant injuries of Marcos Riquelme, the chimbotano was the goal reference for the national runner-up. The Copa Libertadores should be the decisive showcase for Percy Liza, who has already quintupled its value in the market: today his pass card reaches 500 thousand euros. Anderlecht of Belgium has already expressed their interest.

The women’s blue and white team not only prevailed in the Peruvian championship (which resumed this season after a long hiatus), but also had a historic participation in the women’s Copa Libertadores. The intimates qualified for the round of 16 of the tournament, after beating U. de Chile. With reinforcements from Venezuela and Colombia, and with several selected from Peru, Alianza Lima has embarked on an ambitious project to transcend the international circuit of women’s football.

The attacker scored 23 goals for the Blue and Whites in the Women’s League. After having prioritized his studies in the United States, Lúcar now wants to bet on his football career. He quickly won the approval of the Victorian fans and will now look to continue to grow internationally. His decisive goal against U. de Chole in the Libertadores Femenina confirmed that Lúcar can compete at the highest level. Adriana closes the season as the most influential player of the national champion. The 2022 will also determine his return to the Peruvian team.

The former Sport Boys footballer had the ideal year in his sports career. Not only did he ratify his status as the undisputed starter with New York City, but he was infallible on penalties in the MLS grand final. Callens scored the decisive goal so that the New York team can make the Olympic return. This consolidation of Callens also led him to starting in the Peruvian national team. His presence on the next qualifying date (against Colombia and Ecuador) is guaranteed.
