Achievement of Ugo Humbert, winner of Daniil Medvedev in three sets

Unlike Ugo Humbert, Daniil Medvedev has a bad start to the year. The world number two suffered his first defeat of the season in the team ATP Cup, Sunday in Sydney, against the 35th Frenchman in the world.

Ugo Humbert won in three sets 6-7 (5/7), 7-5, 7-6 (7/2) and in 2h55 against the winner of the US Open, leader of the Russian team for this unofficial kickoff of the season on the men’s circuit.

Rinder’s defeat

“It was very hard today, but I’m very happy,” said Ugo Humbert after what turned out to be one of the biggest wins of his career. “I just tried to stay relaxed, to stay focused on what to do, and it was a great game.”

In the second France-Russia singles match, however, Russian Roman Safiullin defeated Frenchman Arthur Rinder 2-6, 7-5, 6-3. The doubles match, scheduled for Sunday, will therefore decide between the two teams. Russia and France are in Group B of the tournament along with Australia and Italy. The group stage of this tournament, considered as a preparation for the Australian Open, is to continue until January 6.
