Outclassed by Italy, France eliminated from the event

Ugo Humbert’s initial success over Daniil Medvedev was therefore a blow in the water. France lost all its other matches against Russia on Sunday (2-1), then Italy on Tuesday (3-0), and found itself eliminated from the ATP Cup by teams in Sydney.

World number 10, Jannik Sinner first got the better of Arthur Rinderknech, who had beaten him at the tournament in Lyon last year. The French did not take advantage of his break ahead in the second set and finally lost in the decisive game 6-3, 7-6 (7/3).

Ugo Humbert then could not do anything against Matteo Berrettini 6-4, 7-6 (8/6). The world No. 7, beaten in straight sets Sunday by Australian Alex De Minaur, redeemed himself against Humbert by winning 85% of the points behind his first serve.

The double disputed without a stake saw the success of the Italian pair composed of Sinner and Berrettini ahead of Fabrice Martin and Édouard Roger-Vasselin 6-3, 6-7 (7/9), 10-8.
