The situation that Novak Djokovic has been going through is more than complicated and several of the most important tennis players in the world have referred to the situation; one of them is Alexander Zverev. The German tennis player stated in the press conference prior to the start of the Australian Open that “It’s not fair to come here and not be able to play the tournament”, after the Serbian tennis player returned to the detention center after his visa was canceled for the second time.

“He had a valid visa. It’s not like that? I doubt that he traveled to try his luck without guarantees that he was going to play the tournament. He is a star, if it had not been him, all this drama would not have been created ”, he commented after completing a morning track workout.

Zverev, who will open his way against his compatriot Daniel Altmaier, could face Spaniard Rafael Nadal in a hypothetical quarter-final. Given this, he argued that there are many competitive players in the first Grand Slam of 2022.

“I trained with Rafa and he gave me the impression that he is playing at an incredible level. I think there are many players who have shown to play very well here like Medvedev or Tsitsipas.” added the German who came to Melbourne as one of the main alternatives to the title after his gold at the Tokyo Olympics and his crown at the ATP Finals.

Tsitsipas’ opinion

Another of the great favorites is Stefanos Tsitsipas. The Greek tennis player commented in the press conference prior to that of the German that he regretted that what happened with Djokovic had deprived tennis of shining in all its splendor in the first weeks of preparation at Melbourne Park.

“The issue has received a lot of attention. There hasn’t been enough talk about tennis in the last two weeks. It’s been all over the news for the last couple of weeks.” said the Greek tennis player who will face Swedish Mikael Ymer in the first round.
