The Argentine athlete who bets on those who can win a race: he does it to finance himself

While some athletes manage to prepare themselves in high-performance training programs thanks to the help of their countries and sponsors, the less fortunate have to use their ingenuity to finance their participation in international competitions.

That is the case of Luciano Bernstein, an Argentine athlete who stands out in the 100-meter dash and has national titles in the University Games. His dream is to be able to participate in the South American Indoor Championship, which will take place in Cochabamba, Bolivia, from February 19 to 20.

To try to participate in the international fair, either in his test or in the 200 meters, the athlete from the city of Corrientes looking to raise funds to travel to Buenos Aires and compete in an evaluative athletics tournament that will take place in the Argentine capital at the end of January.

With this scenario and while trying to get sponsors to help him, he began to challenge people to beat him in a race of 50 meters betting money. Giving two meters of advantage to the rival, in the case of being overtaken, he pays 300 pesos. to win, the runner expired must pay 100.

A challenge that went viral

Beyond the attempt to raise funds to finance his participation in a tournament abroad, Luciano tries to give visibility to the situation experienced by Argentine athletes, and he succeeded with flying colors. Your unique challenge went viral on social media and “he does not stop receiving messages”, as he confesses.

“The phone exploded with messages,” the runner said in statements to the Argentine newspaper TN. “The idea is not to bet against people, because we know that they are at a disadvantage because they are not athletes. The intention was that they internalize and know the reality”, explained the Argentine athlete.

“The goal is to show the present in which we move and give it visibility, because after this momentum, we are going to continue with the same situation and we are going to continue needing diffusion and sponsors”, he added.
