An unusual blooper marked the end of the Ivory Coast vs. Sierra Leone this Sunday for the group stage of the African Cup of Nations, in Cameroon. The protagonist was Badra Ali Sangaré, the ‘elephants’ goalkeeper, who became the villain of his team and ended up injured after a bad decision.

In the 94th minute, Alhaji Kamara emerged as the hero of Sierra Leone and, after taking advantage of a mistake by Badra Ali Sangaré, equalized to sour the party that his rivals were already preparing and kept the dream of a team that has never passed the groups.

Sangaré will not forget the final 2-2 play. The goalkeeper tried to avoid a corner after a header from a defender and suffered a serious knee injury when returning the ball onto the pitch. Then Kamara took advantage of the courtesy and added the ball to the goal.

With the goal in added time, Sierra Leone halted the mathematical classification for the round of 16 of Ivory Coast, which tied 2-2 and stayed with four points at the head of group A, with one game more than Algeria and Guinea Equatorial.

Sierra Leone spoiled the party for Ivory Coast, which for many minutes celebrated a hypothetical advance to the next round to join Cameroon, Nigeria and Morocco in the round of 16.

Kamara poured a bucket of cold water over one of the favorites by the names of some of his players: Ibrahim Sangaré (PSV Eindhoven), Franck Kessié (Milan), Nicolas Pépé (Arsenal), Sébastien Haller (Ajax) or Wilfried Zaha ( CrystalPalace).
