The Peruvian national team played its first warm-up friendly of 2022 and achieved a draw against Panama, at the National Stadium in Lima. On this occasion, the ‘Blanquirroja’ squad had many variants, taking into account that most of the members were from the local tournament, and Alex Valera emerged as one of the great figures.
The Universitario striker showed a good level and even scored his first goal with the national team. After the game, the attacker spoke to Movistar Deportes and revealed his feelings about the match against the ‘Canaleros’.
“Playing this match helps us to be physically well, to be in rhythm. It will also be a support to know what Professor Ricardo Gareca wants”, explained Alex Valera, who is looking to debut in the Qatar 2022 Qualifiers (he has been a substitute six times).
“Above all, this will help to reach the intensity that we put in each presentation. I think that helps us a lot, besides that we get to know each other better and thus we will understand the idea that the coach wants. Now, we have to continue working”, added the footballer from Universitario.
Finally, Alex Valera expressed his emotion for the first goal he scored with the ‘Blanquirroja’. “Honestly, it’s very important to me. I have always dreamed of scoring a goal with the Peruvian team and I have already achieved it. Now I have to work to improve many things and to continue training, there is still a friendly match left”, he sentenced.
How many matches does Valera have with Peru?
Alex Valera began to be considered in the Peruvian team since the end of 2020, although he has not had much participation. Before the friendly against Panama, the scorer only made two appearances, which occurred in the group stage of the Copa América 2021: he entered the matches against Brazil and Venezuela.
