They will not be able to count on their captain. Lionel Messi will not be on the squad list of the Argentine National Team for the next two games that will be played for the South American Qualifiers heading to Qatar 2022, as indicated by various Argentine media. In this way, the PSG striker will miss the clashes with Chile and Colombia.

It is a reality that the Argentine star wants to always be present with the ‘Albiceleste’, however, having tested positive for Covid-19 complicated his football situation. Messi contracted coronavirus during the Christmas festivities in his native Rosario and had to be off the field of play to advance his recovery.

The complication arose when the period to recover was extended, which has not allowed Leo to play games with PSG in 2022. For this reason, the seven-time Ballon d’Or would stay in Paris, to reach his state optimal and to be able to compete with his team both in Ligue 1 and in the Champions League.

From Argentina they point out that Paris Saint-Germain submitted a request to the AFA, the same one that has been approved, so that Messi does not travel with the ‘Albiceleste’ and recovers with a view to the duel for the Champions League against Real Madrid.

It should be noted that Lionel Messi has missed almost half of PSG’s games since his arrival at the club. The Argentine has only been present in 14 of the 26 games that the team led by Mauricio Pochettino has had.

On the other hand, the team led by Lionel Scaloni is already qualified for the Qatar 2022 World Cup, however, the South American Qualifiers are not over yet and Argentina will have to face Chile on Thursday, January 27 as a visitor, and then receive Colombia on Tuesday, January 1 February in Cordoba.
