Djokovic sent a heartfelt message to Nadal for his title: “Impressive fighting spirit”

The Australian Open 2022 came to an end this Sunday, with Rafael Nadal’s victory over Daniil Medvedev (3-2), after coming back from 2-0 down. The new consecration of the Spanish tennis player made him become the most successful player in the history of the Grand Slam, accumulating a total of 21 trophies throughout his career, surpassing Novak Djokovic and Roger Federer by one.

Precisely, ‘Nole’ was emerging as the favorite to win the title of the first tournament on the circuit this season, but in the end he was unable to participate. The Serb had entered Australian territory with a medical exemption and avoided providing the information corresponding to his vaccination against COVID-19, which is why he was deported.

However, Djokovic was aware of everything that was happening at the Australian Open and did not hesitate to comment on the final, sending a greeting to ‘Rafa’.

“Congratulations to Rafael Nadal on his 21 Grand Slam titles. Incredible achievement. The fighting spirit that prevailed at all times was impressive. !! Congratulations!! Daniil Medvedev gave it his all, played with passion and determination, as we expected”, Novak wrote on his Twitter account.

Let us remember that Novak Djokovic is the maximum winner of the Australian Open, adding a total of nine titles, and two of those trophies were at the expense of Rafael Nadal: he won the finals in 2012 and 2019. The duel between the two generated expectation, but this time could not occur.
