Chinese New Year 2022: Google welcomes the Year of the Tiger with an animated doodle

With its latest doodle on Tuesday, February 1, Google celebrates the arrival of the Chinese New Year, known as the Lunar New Year, whose main character is the tiger (Year of the Water Tiger), associated with courage, competitiveness and strength.

As each year is associated with one of the 12 animals of the Chinese zodiac, this 2022 is the Year of the Water Tiger and in the doodle published today we can see an interactive one in the middle of the letters that make up the word Google camouflaged as decoration.

“With glowing lanterns, traditional foods, and an air of anticipation for what’s to come, today’s Doodle welcomes the Year of the Tiger on the first day of the Lunar New Year,” reads in the Google post.

On this date, traditional foods are prepared that represent good fortune, such as fish (abundance) and tangerines (good omens). Families decorate their homes with flowers such as peaches; red lanterns; fai chun (red banners with phrases wishing luck and prosperity); and exchange lai see (red envelopes filled with money).

“A new year symbolizes a new beginning and many traditions capture this concept. Preparations start ten days before the lunar new year and many clean their houses as a way to remove bad luck from the previous year.” Explain Google about him doodle from today.
