LEGO wants to create a metaverse for children in collaboration with the creators of Fortnite

The LEGO Group and Epic Games -creators of Fortnite- are the new protagonists of the race to develop a metaverse. However, this alliance has decided to focus specifically on the little ones in the home: this collaboration wants to create a child-friendly digital space.

As highlighted by both companies in the release together published on the Epic Games website, this “Family digital experience will give children access to tools that will allow them to become creators and offer amazing play opportunities in a safe and positive space”.

To achieve this goal, The LEGO Group and Epic Games have agreed on three fundamental principles under which their metaverse will be governed. These are:

YOU CAN SEE: Max Payne 1 and 2 return with better graphics and from the hands of their original creators

Niels B Christiansen, CEO of The LEGO Group, noted that “children enjoy playing in digital and physical worlds and move seamlessly between the two.”

“We believe that there is enormous potential for them to develop lifelong skills such as creativity, collaboration and communication through digital experiences. But we have a responsibility to make them safe, inspiring and beneficial to all. We look forward to working with Epic Games to shape this exciting and playful future.”said the executive in the statement.

On the other hand, Tim Sweeney, founder and CEO of Epic Games, demonstrated his company’s enthusiasm for working with LEGO, since “has captivated the imagination of children and adults through creative play for nearly a century”highlighting that they seek to build a metaverse that is fun, entertaining and made for children and families.

Although the alliance has already been made official, the truth is that we still do not have any progress on this project or a release schedule, so it is still far from catching up with its main competitors such as Minecraft and Roblox. However, what is exciting about this union is that both handle some of the most coveted licenses in entertainment such as the rights to characters from Marvel, DC Comics and Star Wars, to name just a few.
