BMW cars sold without Android Auto and Apple Carplay due to chip shortage

the manufacturer of automobiles German BMW has delivered some of its models without support for the applications Android Auto and Apple CarPlay due to chip shortages caused by the pandemic.

As published by Automotive News Europe, BMW has been forced to release vehicles without this functionality after an emergency business action as a result of the pandemic.

Apparently, the manufacturer would have changed chip supplier to take the finished cars to their corresponding destinations during the pandemic and be able to sell them in different countries.

In this way, the new provider uses semiconductors that are not yet compatible with these two applications and require a software update that will not arrive until next June.

“The chips built in these cars in the first four months of this year need updated ‘software’ to be fully functional and offer Apple CarPlay / Android Auto and Wi-Fi capability”has explained BMWit’s a statement.

According to comments from users and participants in brand forums, countries such as the United Kingdom, Spain, Italy, the United States and France would have been affected by this problem, which is identified with the production code 6P1.
