MediaTek has announced a new processor for mid-range mobile devices, Dimensity 1080, with which it extends support for 200-megapixel cameras to more terminals.
The manufacturer has designed Dimensity 1080 to improve the efficiency and quality of the camera in equipment with 5G connectivity of more affordable ranges, as detailed in a publication on its official website.

To do this, this processor made with a 6-nanometer process is made up of an eight-core CPU (two of them Arm Cortex-A78 at 2.6Ghz and six Cortex-A55 at 2.0GHz) and an Arm Mali-G68 GPU that, together with the set of HyperEngine 3.0 optimizations, improves performance in video games.
To optimize energy consumption, it integrates an APU 3.0 artificial intelligence processing unit, and offers connectivity in sub-6GHz 5G and WiFi 6 networks.

Dimension 1080 also improves camera performance, with support for sensors up to 200 megapixels., and an image signal processor (ISP) for high-quality capture and recording. It also renders 4K video with a hardware-accelerated HDR recording engine.
The company has reported that this new processor will be available on the market in the last quarter of this year.
