Leader Lars, the AI that leads a political party and seeks to run for elections in Denmark

Cinema and Literature played with the idea that in the future the world would be dominated by machines. We are not that far. In Denmark, the postulation of a system of artificial intelligence (IA) called Leader Lars to the general election.

Who is behind this campaign is the Synthetic Party of Denmark. In this way, he seeks to reach a seat in parliament during the November elections, reported the Vice media. Although they will not be present on the ballot paper.

The group was created in May by an artist collective called Computer Lars and the arts and technology organization MindFuture Foundation.

“We are representing the data of all the fringe parties, so it is all the parties that are trying to get elected to parliament but do not have a seat,” said Asker Staunæs, one of the founders of this party.

According to your information, Leader Lars it is programmed into the politics of Danish fringe parties since 1970 and is meant to represent the values of the 20% of those who do not vote in elections. It works as a chatbot and has given interviews to some media. That is to say, it really is a program prepared to manage. He even has proposals, such as establishing a universal basic income of 13,700 dollars, which exceeds the minimum wage in his country.

Although it may seem curious or impossible to carry out, there are already other candidates based on artificial intelligence, such as the case of SAM, in New Zealand, and ALISA, in Russia. But Staunæs criticized these versions because they are anthropomorphizing the AI to act as an objective candidate and make them authoritarian. His party’s proposal is “a total democratization of a ‘more than human’ way of life.”

But a nomination is not yet close to being a reality. According to Vice, 20,000 signatures are required for a political party to try to run. Today the Synthetic Political Party only has 11 signatures. For the founder of this party, his voters should be people “who really get so involved with artificial intelligence that we can interpret something valuable from them.” Is that the future of politics?
