The YouTube giant announced on Thursday that it would start certifying the accounts of doctors and other caregivers on its platform. The goal is to highlight reliable videos on health and to try to limit misinformation and fake news on these subjects.
A process open to institutions
This change will allow users to immediately recognize quality videos on health topics; said the online video giant, a subsidiary of Alphabet (Google). Internet users will also be able to better “find and interact with content” created by caregivers, said Garth Graham, a YouTube manager, in a blog post.
The certification process will go through, among other things, a verification of the caregivers’ diplomas. It will also be open to mental health professionals and official institutions. With the Covid-19 pandemic, a lot of fake news and misleading information about the virus and vaccines had been spread on the internet.
