Vine, the app that Elon Musk wants to revive to compete against Tik Tok

Since he took control of TwitterElon Musk has made all kinds of changes, one of the most important was the decision to fire four senior officials, including the company’s own CEO, Parag Agrawal.

Now, the billionaire and also owner of Tesla, has posted a poll on his Twitter account asking users if he should bring back Vine, the precursor to Tik Tok.

So far, the poll exceeds 3 million votes. 69.4% of users have voted in favor of the return of the video app of a maximum length of 7 seconds. 30.6% have voted against.

How did Vine work?

The precursor social network of Tik Tok was acquired by Twitter in 2012. It was based on the publication of short videos for mass consumption. Thus, the different contents were displayed based on different hashtags, as on Twitter, with the great difference that the main content was visual, and not text, as in the case of the network now owned by Elon Musk.

However, the changes applied by Twitter caused content creators to gradually abandon the application. Finally, the social network ended shutting down the short video service in 2016.

A year later, ByteDance bought Musical.ly for $1 billion and ended up merging it with its own short video app, TikTok.
