The Wifi changed the way we connect to Internet by freeing ourselves from the cables. However, sometimes the signal can fail and not necessarily because of a problem with the router. Sometimes we can have the best equipment, but the connection is not good.
And while there is no single factor that determines the quality of the Internet signal – such as location or interference from other devices – something that is not usually considered is the type of device that connects to the router. Thus, for example, old devices can become our worst enemy. Which is the reason?

The first thing to understand is that WiFi uses radio waves to transmit data on the 2.4 GHz or 5 GHz frequency.
To transmit data, the router changes these waves depending on the data that needs to be sent. Thus, if a one is transmitted, different waves are sent compared to if a zero were transmitted. And to do this, WiFi uses different protocols.
As Computer Hoy explains, these protocols define different modulation techniques that lead to a difference in the amount of data that is transmitted over WiFi.
So if we have an old device that uses an old protocol, even if the router is of the latest generation, you will have to change your configuration to accommodate that protocol.
We have, for example, the 802.11b protocol. It is an old protocol that cannot understand the data of the modern 802.11n protocol. Therefore, to solve this problem, the 802.11n router uses the 802.11b protocol to communicate with that device, slowing down the connection.
