Mistral, a vertical wind turbine that is inspired by humpback whales

There are more and more alternatives to obtain clean wind energysuch as the wind turbines designed by the researchers Jean-Patrick Barboza and Yannick Müller, and which could even be adapted in homes.

It is a vertical wind turbine that receives the name of Mistral, and that can adapt to any circumstance with light or strong winds to generate wind energy more efficiently.

As detailed on the Ecoinventos page, this device can work with winds of up to 6 km/h, but also with higher levels of up to 60 km/h, so that they are working 24 hours a day.

Regarding the shape, this wind turbine resembles a lying wheel. It contains a propeller at the center, as traditional devices usually have.

But there is another detail. The prototype worked by the French researchers is inspired by animals, there are blades with a toothed side that simulates the feathers at the end of the wings of birds or the shape of the fins of humpback whales.

After five years of work, the Mistral wind turbine would be about to go on the market. However, the researchers are seeking funding.
