China builds world’s largest wind turbine with 128-meter blades

Clean energy is a constant search in various countries around the world, such as Chinawho has managed to build a gigantic turbine of wind power installed offshore.

It is an 18 megawatt (MW) wind turbine, manufactured by CSSC Haizhuang, a subsidiary of China State Shipbuilding Corporation. But what stands out are its 128-meter SuperBlade+ blades, which will cover an area of 53,000 m2.

According to the Xataka media, this area is equivalent to seven soccer fields. In addition, the new turbine will add to the 300 million kilowatts produced in 2021.

But its large size can also raise questions about its safety. For this reason, it has been pointed out that it uses a holographic sensing system to control and reduce the overall load, and it can stop the flapping of the blades and minimize vibrations in the tower and foundations.

With this new element, China consolidates itself as a leader in the production of clean energy, with which it is planned to generate a third of its electricity from renewable energies by 2025. But the goal is greater. China hopes to produce 1,200 gigawatts of wind and solar power by 2030.
