Google Maps: this is how you can blur a house, a face, a vehicle from Street View

A few years ago, many people were surprised to see Google vehicles with a huge camera on the roof. They gave support to Google StreetView to be able to navigate between the streets of any city, as if we were in the same place.

The reconstruction through photos of these roads made many people, houses, apartments, vehicles appear in the system. But this has also caused some to feel that their privacy has been violated.

For this reason, there is an option to try to blur certain information that can be misused. The page El Español Omicrono indicates that Google integrates a series of very specific options to ask it, if we want it, to ‘blur’ the area we want on Google Maps so that users cannot see it in Street View.

The detail is that the blurring of the image will depend on the motivation and if Google agrees. This would be done based on a certain process to remove either your home or yourself from Google Maps.

The specialized page explains that the first thing we must do is use a computer. This option cannot be performed from a smartphone. Then, you must search for the exact address, with a street and with a number if it is a house. Then you enter Google Street View.

The next thing to do is locate in Street View a black square with your address. Then, you must click on the 3 dots to “Report a problem”. In this option you can browse the image to select the part of the image to censor.

When blur is requested, the app responds with the following options: A Face, My House, My Car / A License Plate, or Other Object. Image quality can also be reported: when the image is misplaced or misaligned navigation arrows, poor image quality in general or the icon of a street place is not correct or not well located.

Once this is done, Google will request additional information and a means to contact you. This is done in order to receive more information or confirm the change.
