The Boeing 737 that does not fly: it was turned into an impressive luxury hotel facing the sea

The manufacturing companies of planes They usually use, when building their ships, pieces of old models in disuse to reduce costs. But a company has gone further and has recycled an entire aircraft, although not exactly to make it fly, but to build a luxury hotel.

This is the Private Jet Villa by Hanging Gardens, a villa built with the remains of a retired Boeing 737, located on a cliff on the Nyang Nyang coast of Bali, Indonesia.

The vehicle was part of the Mandala Airlines fleet that closed permanently in 2014. A large part of its planes passed into the hands of the TigerAir airline, but in 2021, the fate of the Boeing 737 was very different from what was expected when it was bought by the Russian businessman Felix Demin, owner of the Bubble Hotel Bali hotel chain.

“Even before buying it, I thought it was possible to turn it into some kind of unique object, and I decided to focus on creating a villa”he affirms, before explaining that only during the search he found about twenty similar aircraft scattered throughout Indonesia.

Ultimately, Denim settled on a Boeing 737 that had been purchased by an Indonesian investor and agreed to buy it.

However, transporting the plane from its location in Bali to a cliff several kilometers away was no easy task.

“We had to disassemble it after consulting with the Boeing team”Explain. “We loosened 50,000 screws”.

It took the team responsible for the transformation a week to bring the 40-meter-long, 41,140-kilogram aircraft to the edge of the cliff. It had to be dismantled and reassembled at its chosen location before the luxury hotel’s renovation could begin.

What is Private Jet Villa like?

Gone are the plane’s usual 189 seats and other equipment, replaced by a bed that, among other things, stretches almost across the entire width of the plane. There is also an indoor lounge where you can eat and drink a cocktail while looking out one of the plane’s oval windows.

The windshield that allowed pilots to see the plane’s flight path is now a spectacular window into Bali’s natural beauty from inside the designer Jacuzzi. According to the information in the reservation, it has two rooms, one queen bed, two bathrooms, kitchen with microwave.

Viewed from the side of the plan, there is an open glass terrace for parties, which leads via lower stairs to the pool, which rises over the cliff towards the sea. Thanks to all these characteristics and structural features, this villa belongs to the category of five stars.

As can be supposed, spending a stay in this flashy establishment is not within everyone’s reach, since the night costs from US$ 7,300. The reservation is made through the Expedia travel website.

Social Media Sensation

This unique project has received a lot of attention on social media since its launch, leading to some rather unusual local events.

“The other day I saw a broken fence and 150 people sitting on our plane”Deming said, before describing how the paraglider jumped off the wing of the plane.

Although the businessman stressed that the plane had undergone several security checks, its unsafe location, as well as several shared images of influential people crossing the plane’s wings or dangling their legs outside the plane’s doors, generated rejection.
