The public and the offer of electric bikesHowever, their prices are still not accessible to everyone, especially when it comes to Mountain bikes. So a student worked on his own electric motor.
The prices of electric bicycles vary. In Peru they can be found from S/1,500, but they increase depending on the complexity. According to the Hybrid & Electric page, mountain bike retrofit kits use central motors and are often expensive, complicated to assemble, and non-removable. Davide Zanetti did it, but for 300 euros (S/1,228).

To achieve this, the Italian university student used an electric scooter motor whose power is limited to 300 W, slightly more than what is allowed by European regulations. This allows you to double your climbing speed.
In addition to that, Zanetti had to make an anchor with parts ordered from a specialized company. This was fixed using a couple of screws and a plastic clamp.
It also has a DeWalt battery that works at 5 Ah and 21 V. The problem is that, although it is cheaper, its work does not allow autonomy as long as that offered by other kits.
Another advantage, besides the cost, is that the motor can be removed from the bike very easily, just by removing the bolts. However, although it is a test, the kit that Zanetti created does not meet the legal requirements since it exceeds the electrical power limit in his country.
