Rolls-Royce’s next project ditch cars for a nuclear reactor on the Moon

The Rolls-Royce company, known worldwide for its line of automobiles, has also worked on aeronautical engines and is now entering the field of nuclear energy with a project for the Moon.

For this work, the United Kingdom Space Agency agreed to fund the research with 2.9 million pounds sterling (about 13 million soles), with the aim of achieving a model nuclear reactor.

According to the Gizmodo page, this team could be housed on the Moon in 2029. This could allow human outposts to be installed on the lunar surface and lunar bases.

“As we prepare to see humans return to the moon for the first time in more than 50 years, we are supporting exciting research like this modular lunar reactor with Rolls-Royce to pioneer new power sources for a lunar base,” he said. British Science Minister George Freeman.

But the project will not only be these two institutions. It is expected that Harvard University or the Advanced Manufacturing Research Center (AMRC) will join the work.
