Formula E opens in Sao Paulo: Mitch Evans of the Jaguar team takes the e-Prix of Brazil after an intense race marked by a spectacular accident for Nissan

New Zealander Mitch Evans, from the Jaguar TCS Racings team, was the winner of the Sao Paulo e-Prix 2023, a competition that opens in the Brazilian city and to which El Comercio attended. In second place, Envision Racing’s Cassidy had his best time of 1:14.174. Close behind both was Britain’s Sam Bird, who is also part of Jaguar TCS Racings, and had a best time of 1:13.684.

A Gen3 is also the first race car designed for street courses. Unlike the Gen2, it weighs 60 kilos less, gives cars 40% more power and a top speed of more than 320 km/h and is 14% faster. Formula E: Sao Paulo e-Prix

At the start of the race, an accident occurred that did not have serious consequences, but did scare the audience. Due to the seriousness of some collisions in this type of racing, many thought the worst would happen. Norman Nato, a French Nissan racer, had to leave the competition due to the incident.

The 30-year-old driver, who has won victories in the Formula Renault 3.5 Series, the GP2 Series and the FIA ​​Formula 2, with three wins and eight podiums in three seasons; he dropped out of the race. Nato had his best moment in the famous 24 Hours of Le Mans, in 2020, where he finished second, and with third place in the 2019/20 FIA World Endurance Championship.

For his part, Sasha Fenestraz was the second rider out of the race after 6 laps when he stopped on the road and couldn’t get back on track.. The Franco-Argentine was followed by the British Jake Dennis (13 laps), and the Swiss Edoardo Mortara and Nico Müller (both 19 laps), who also failed to finish the race. Müller was unable to complete the circuit due to another accident.

In the last lap, fellow New Zealander Nick Cassidy was looking to overtake for the lead, but couldn’t get past. Both Evans and Cassidy had 1% battery left and it looked like they wouldn’t make it to the finish line. However, they were not the only ones, as many drivers had less than 1% energy left. Evans managed to maintain the lead and his energy despite having 0.3% left at one point.

Evans, 28, takes his first victory in the 2022/23 season. During his entire motorsport history, the New Zealander has won 7 times and been on the podium 19 times, since his debut at the 2016 Hong Kong e-Prix.
