More and more people have access to a connection to Internet which implies advantages such as real-time communication, better work tools and millions of entertainment options. But we are so used to its use that we rarely stop to reflect on all the content that is handled on the web and you will be surprised by what we do in just 1 minute.

It only takes 60 seconds to generate a huge amount of data online. Whether we focus on social networks, email or electronic commerce, one minute is enough to see the relevance of the internet in our daily lives.

Although the internet was already an essential tool, with the Covid-19 pandemic its adoption and use grew significantly.

In fact, according to the Digital Report 2023, the latest edition of the annual study carried out by We Are Social, Internet users in the world increased by 1.9%, which means that 5.160 million people have access to the network, which represents 64.4% of the world population.

The study highlights that most people in the world connect through a mobile device. In January 2023, these teams reached 68% of the population, that is, 5.440 million people.

Regarding the countries with the highest rates of Internet access, the United Arab Emirates, Ireland, Norway, Saudi Arabia, Switzerland and Denmark have the highest rates above 98%.

And not only the number of people connected has increased, but also the time they spend online. To give you an idea, in 2013 the average number of hours Internet users spent online was 6 hours and 9 minutes, in 2022 it went to 6 hours and 58 minutes.

Regarding the use that the majority gives to the Internet, more than half of people take advantage of it to carry out searches, in second place they indicate keeping in touch with friends and family, followed by keeping up-to-date with events and news, and to a lesser extent watch videos, shows and movies and find inspiration or new ideas.

As you will realize, more and more people cannot imagine their lives without the Internet, so much so that the total amount of data consumed worldwide was 97 zettabytes in 2022, 18 more than in 2021, according to the firm Domo.
