A third former employee of Manzana has been accused of stealing information about autonomous vehicle technology. These company complaints are the only evidence that what is known as the “Apple Car” has been in development for several years.

Wang joined the company in 2016 as part of a team developing hardware and software for autonomous systems, technology that could possibly end up in autonomous cars”reports Engadget.

After leaving Apple, it was discovered what the Chinese national had done. “According to the indictment, in November 2017, Wang accepted a job at a US subsidiary of a Chinese company that was developing self-driving cars, but waited more than four months to tell Apple he was resigning. After Wang left Apple in April 2018, the company discovered that he ‘accessed large amounts of private and confidential information’ before his departure.said the Department of Justice”, he adds.

Wang managed to escape to China, despite the fact that he had assured that he would not leave the country. ““Large amounts of data taken from Apple” were found during a police search of Wang’s Mountain View residence in June. Wang told the agents that he did not plan to travel, but flew back to China that night.according to the accusation”, affirms the medium.

The Chinese national would have to be extradited to face the charges. “Wang has been charged with six counts of theft or attempted theft of trade secrets. He faces a maximum prison sentence of 10 years and a US$250,000 fine for each count.. However, that depends on officials being able to extradite Wang, who remains in China, as CNBC reports.“, Add.

This is not the first time that a Chinese former Apple worker has stolen data for another company. In 2018, Xiaolang Zhang was arrested when he tried to board a plane to the Asian country. In 2022, the former employee pleaded guilty to stealing information about autonomous vehicle technology.

In addition, Jizhong Chen was also accused of the same in 2019., but by not pleading guilty like Zhang, the trial against him remains in effect. These cases are the only conclusive proof that Apple would be developing an autonomous vehicle, since no one within the company has confirmed that they are working on it.
