Neither solar nor wind: this solution generates clean energy 24 hours a day using the air

This may be the best invention in recent years. It is a new source of energy something different from what has been seen to date. And it is that a group of researchers has found a way to generate clean energy 24 hours a day using only air.

The results of the research were published in the journal Advanced Materials by engineers at the University of Massachusetts Amherst, and consist of the ability to sprinkle the material with nanopores less than 100 nanometers in diameter.

For the team of researchers, this is an exciting result because it opens a great door to obtain clean electricity, reported the Hybrid and Electric page.

“The air contains an enormous amount of electricity. Consider a cloud, which consists of charged water droplets. When the right conditions are right, the cloud can generate lightning, but we don’t know how to capture it,” said Jun Yao, a professor at the university.

What they have done is create a small-scale cloud that predictably and continuously generates electricity so they can harness it. The core of this artificial cloud is based on the so-called “generic Air-gen effect”, which is like harvesting electricity.

Harvesting is done using protein nanowires grown from the bacterium ‘Geobacter sulphurreducens’. This implies that the material must have pores of less than 100 nanometers (nm), that is, less than one thousandth of the width of a human hair. and, as humidity is always present, 24-hour operation is guaranteed.
