The instant messaging platform started working on an option that allows you to send photos in their original quality in the month of January this year. Thus, It has been possible to maintain the original dimensions of the image during the shipment, avoiding compressing the photo and, therefore, achieving a higher quality.

Now, WhatsApp has started to implement the sending of HD photosan option that some users can already access in the beta versions of Android 2.23.12.13, as well as the beta version of iOS 23.11.0.76, as they have been able to verify from WaBetaInfo.

How to send HD photos from WhatsApp

The option to send HD photos only appears when you try to send a large image. In this case, Before sending, a tab appears offering the option to send in standard quality or HD quality.

This tab also reports that HD photos are sharper. However, standard quality images use less storage space and are delivered faster. Similarly, the standard quality is applied by default to any photo, so if you want to send with HD quality you must choose that option.

When an HD quality image has been sent, an HD icon appears in the lower left corner of the sent photo to signal and inform users. Something useful so that, for example, the recipients can decide whether to download this image or not.

On the other hand, this same medium points out that, Even though you can send a photo in HD, it does not mean that it is being sent in its original quality completely, since it preserves the original dimensions but a slight compression is still applied. Also, this feature is not available when sharing images in status updates.

The ability to send photos in high HD quality has started to be made available to some beta testers with the latest WhatsApp beta for Android from the Google Play Store and the beta app for iOS from the TestFlight app.
