The Scottish Prime Minister and leader of the independence party SNP, Nicola Sturgeon, declared on Saturday that a majority in favor of independence was “no doubt” in the Scottish Parliament, two days after local elections in Great Britain whose results are announced gradually.

“There will be a pro-independence majority in this Scottish parliament,” said Nicola Sturgeon after the release of projections showing her party in the lead. In these estimates, however, the SNP is just below the absolute majority, and the Prime Minister’s statement alludes to the seats won by the Greens, who also support a self-determination referendum.

“There is simply no democratic justification for Boris Johnson, or for anyone, to seek to block the right of the Scottish people to choose their own future,” said Nicola Sturgeon, who thus puts the Prime Minister in guard against any refusal to authorize a self-determination referendum.
