This Tuesday, in the evening, the inter-union CGT and CFDT of the Fiber Excellence pulp mill of Tarascon in the Bouches-du-Rhôn, in receivership, signed an agreement providing in particular for a reduction in wage costs, in as part of a business takeover project.
“We welcome this responsible decision, essential to give the plant a chance, save its jobs and those in the industry that depend on it. It enables the plant to be put back on the path to viability, ”the management of Fiber Excellence said on Wednesday in a press release.
“Perhaps it was the end of society”
Placed in receivership since the fall, this company of some 300 employees on which thousands of foresters in France depend has received only one takeover proposal, that of Canadian Paper Excellence, its shareholder since 2010. The latter however, had conditioned its offer to a reduction in the cost of labor in particular.
“If there hadn’t been an agreement, maybe it was the end of the company. We made counter-proposals to management which were accepted and we felt that with these advances, we could sign to avoid job destruction, ”explained Laurent Wallée, CGT delegate, to AFP. During the staff consultation on Thursday, “148 employees voted against the agreement and 128 for,” said Yannick Farré, FO delegate, who did not sign the document.
