Saturday afternoon, two children aged 4 and 8 died in a road accident in Mouscron, Belgium, not far from the border with France according to our colleagues from The future. According to the Tournai public prosecutor’s office, the tragedy occurred during a chase between two private cars.
The tragedy occurred around 2 p.m. Saturday, on the national road 58 towards Mouscron. When help arrived on site, they discovered a car embedded in a lamppost. In the back of the vehicle, two children died instantly. The driver, father-in-law of the victims, was hospitalized in Mouscron.
A chase after a collision in a parking lot
The investigation quickly shed light on the circumstances of the accident. According to the Tournai prosecutor’s office, the vehicle where the children were located was deliberately struck by another car with which a chase was engaged. A few minutes earlier, the two motorists had had an altercation after a collision in the parking lot of a large area.
To our colleagues, the prosecution explained that the two cars were driving “at very high speed” and that, during the pursuit, the children’s vehicle was thrown against the lamppost by the other motorist he was trying to overtake. This motorist, whose car was registered in France, fled.
