In Stanitsa Luhanska there is one of the few safe passages in the entire line of separation of forces from Donbas, where more than 14,000 people have died since 2014, according to the UN, and where military tension resurfaced today with an exchange of blows between the Ukrainian Army and pro-Russian militias.

“This indiscriminate shelling of civilian infrastructure is totally unacceptable and represents a clear violation of the ceasefire and the Minsk agreements,” Borrell stressed.

The head of European diplomacy reiterated that the Twenty-seven are united in supporting “unwavering” to the sovereignty and territorial integrity of Ukraine within its internationally recognized borders.

In addition, the Spanish politician recalled that the European Union supports “fully” the work of the OSCE Special Monitoring Mission and requested its access “Without restrictions” to the entire territory of Ukraine, in accordance with its mandate.

This statement by Borrell came hours after the Twenty-seven held an informal meeting today in Brussels to analyze the latest developments in this crisis and studied the package of sanctions that they are preparing against Russia if it attacks Ukraine.

After that meeting, Borrell told the press that “He’s prepared” To present “as soon as possible” to his European counterparts the package of sanctions against Russia, but stated that they will not be approved until “The level of intensity of the aggression requires it.”

The President of Ukraine, Volodymyr Zelensky, today informed the President of the European Council, Charles Michel, of a provocative bombing carried out by pro-Russian separatists that affected a kindergarten and a school in the east of the country, while they accused their the Ukrainian government for having violated the ceasefire.

In turn, NATO warned against the Kremlin’s alleged plans to take advantage of the upsurge in hostilities in eastern Ukraine as “excuse” to invade the neighboring country.
