Putin tells Macron and Scholz that he will recognize the independence of Donetsk and Lugansk separatists

The Russian leader informed Macron and Scholz on the results of the enlarged meeting of the Russian Security Council, “in which the current situation around Donbas was discussed in the context of the request of the State Duma on the recognition of the people’s republics of Donetsk and Lugansk”, says the note.

Putin recalled that today he had also received a request regarding the recognition of Donetsk and Lugansk as a result of a “military aggression by the Ukrainian authorities”, with “massive bombardments of the territory of donbasfor which the civilian population suffers”.

According to the statement, the French president and the German chancellor “expressed their disappointment” with the development of events while “indicating that they were willing to continue contacts.”
