“I came to protect you from my homeland and from Putin, the Hitler of today”: a Russian journalist who joined the Ukrainian forces

Sergey Lojko is a 69-year-old Russian journalist who has long worked as a correspondent for leading American magazines. Because of his work, he covered multiple wars, although he had never taken a weapon in his hands. Until now.

The man recorded a video in which, holding a rifle kalashnikovexplained that he went to Ukraine to join the forces of that country in their fight against Russia. “I came to protect Ukraine from my homeland, from Putin – today’s Hitler.”

As he explained in this message that was shared by the Ukrainian Defense Ministry, Lojko witnessed many armed conflicts and wars, but had never before taken sides, but this time is different: he decided to “become a warrior” because, for him, it is a war “between good and evil”. “It was very easy for me to choose a side, because this is a battle between dark and light, so I finally chose my side,” counted.

After that, he addressed especially those “men who have experience in combat and military training either in the United States or anywhere in the world” and said: “I understand that the governments of your states cannot participate in the fight, as they are concerned that this may cause a nuclear confrontation with Moscow. But you, as individuals, if you want to help Ukraine protect its independence and freedom, contact the Ukrainian embassy in your country or where you live. Come join the Territorial Defense Forces like I did”, he asked them.

Regarding the end, the journalist who joined the Ukrainian Army emphasized: “Here we are not only fighting for Ukraine, for its independence, for the Ukrainians and for their loved ones, here we fight for you, for the whole world, because this is the beginning of the Third World War”.
