Racism in the US: white students “auctioned” their black classmates as slaves

A new case of racism was experienced in a school in North Carolina, in United Statesafter a group of white students decided to ‘play’ at auctioning off their black classmates to sell them as slaves.

Ashley Palmer, one of the mothers of the “auctioned” teenagers was the one who denounced the case through a publication on her Facebook account. She pointed out that the events took place at school J. S. Waters School of Goldston.

“When he confessed, we realized that this kind of thing seems to be so much the norm that he didn’t think it was worth sharing.”he wrote in the post picked up by NBC News.

The woman explained what the simulated sale of young black men consisted of, in which ‘auctioned’ to a student for $350 while another student owned “the slaves”.

As detailed by the organization Chatham Organizing For Racial Equity, the simulation occurred in the presence of the educational center staff and was recorded on video. This NGO requested that staff who contemplate these abuses without taking action be punished, including dismissal.

“Actions like these simply do not reflect who we are as a school system,” the county superintendent of schools said apologetically Chatham, anthony jacksonafter parents raised their voices in protest.

These parents, together with other anti-racial organizations, asked the authorities of the school district of North Carolina that the students who committed this abuse apologize and be suspended.

“These students were emboldened not only to commit blatant and overt acts of racism, but also to retaliate further and continue their aggression after serving a perfunctory one-day suspension.”the coalition said.

jackson sent a letter to the families in which he also states that the incidents are “unacceptable” and “will not be tolerated”.

After this racist act, the school board adopted some changes that include revising the student code, as well as the regulations regarding acts of racism.
