The incredible video that shows Kim Jong-un at the launch of the “monster missile” as in a Hollywood movie

This Friday, North Korea confirmed that the day before he tried his new missile intercontinental missile (ICBM) Hwasong-17, a higher-ranking weapon whose launch further tenses the situation on the Korean peninsula and may involve new sanctions from the UN.

North Korean media today reported what was suspected on Thursday after the test; the shot is a Hwasong-17a huge missile exhibited for the first time in October 2020 but which had not been launched until now, leading a large part of the expert community to think that the projectile still posed an operational challenge for Pyongyang.

The missile, “lLaunched from Pyongyang International Airport, it climbed to a maximum height of 6,248.5 kilometers, flew 1,090 kilometers in 4,052 seconds (67.5 minutes), and landed precisely at the planned location, in the high seas of the East Sea. Korea (name given to the Sea of Japan in the two Koreas)”, reported the KCNA agency.

The Hwasong-17 launched at an almost right angle to make a very steep parabola (and to “take into account the security of neighboring countries”, according to KCNA) and fell into Japanese waters just 150 kilometers from Hokkaido, prompting protests from Tokyo over Pyongyang’s failure to notify maritime and air traffic authorities.

Leader Kim Jong Un He signed the launch order in his own handwriting, as the regime is accustomed to doing with ICBM tests, and, clad in sunglasses and a leather jacket, witnessed the test from an adapted vehicle located in the vicinity of the airport of the North Korean capital.

ABOUT 23 METERS LONG

The images shown by the North Korean media amply showed the Hwasong-17, an imposing weapon about 23 meters long that seems to have the capacity to fly 15,000 kilometers, putting almost any point on the planet within range.

As part of the rehearsal, Kim Jong-un stressed that North Korean troops are “remain fully prepared for a long-term confrontation with the US imperialists”, according to KCNA.

Kim also stated that this new strategic weapon is an additional guarantor for the “state security” and that solidifies the “self sufficient defense” from the country.

The leader also talked about equipping the missile “with incomparably superior military strike capabilities.”.

This is a possible allusion to what analysts suspect; that the Hwasong-17 could be capable of carrying multiple nuclear warheads (MIRV), which would allow it to hit different targets simultaneously with a single projectile, making it North Korea’s most dangerous weapon.

KCNA stressed that the development of the new missile has been carried out “in a short period of time” and that the test on Thursday “clearly demonstrated that the essential elements of the weapon system precisely met the design requirements”.

OPERATIONAL RELIABILITY

The text added that “operational reliability” in a war theater is “scientifically, technically and practically guaranteed” through this test.

This test has been the first of a North Korean ICBM since 2017 and greatly worsens the climate in the region since it means for Pyongyang to break the moratorium that it self-imposed in 2018 to try to reach a diplomatic understanding with Washington.

It has already brought additional sanctions from the United States, which late on Thursday announced punishments for entities based in Russia, China and North Korea itself linked to the regime’s weapons of mass destruction program.

A meeting of the UN Security Council has also been called for today for the possible approval of new sanctioning resolutions.

However, there are doubts about the support in this field of Moscow and Beijing, both with veto power, given the climate of polarization among the permanent members of the body due to the War in Ukraine and the current rain of sanctions that Russia is suffering as punishment for the invasion.

UNCERTAINTY IN THE PENINSULA

The North Korean test also comes at a time of growing uncertainty on the peninsula, with joint US-South Korea military exercises looming, maneuvers that often infuriate North Korea, and a presidential transition in Seoul charged disagreements over national security issues.

In this sense, the South Korean president-elect, Yoon Suk-yeol, who will come to power on May 10, warned Pyongyang today that “there is nothing that can be gained by provocationwhile waiting to speak on the phone with Chinese President Xi Jinping about the North Korean trial.

The North Korean regime outlined at the 2021 single party congress a five-year weapons modernization plan that is behind its current string of weapons tests (12 since the beginning of the year, a record number).

In turn, since the failure of the nuclear negotiations with Washington in 2019, it has rejected US invitations to dialogue at a time when the country continues to be closed to the ground by the pandemic and without vaccines, which makes holding it hardly feasible. of high-level diplomatic meetings.
