Norway donated 100 anti-aircraft missiles to Ukraine

Norway donated a hundred French-designed anti-aircraft missiles to Ukrainewhich is at war with Russia, the Norwegian government reported on Wednesday.

The Mistral is a very short-range surface-to-air missile manufactured since the late 1980s by the defense group Matra.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky asked Oslo in March, during a videoconference speech to the Norwegian Parliament, for anti-aircraft missiles, but of a more modern type, the NASAMS, made by the Norwegian company Kongsberg Defense & Aerospace.

“The missile (Mistral) is going to be withdrawn from service in the Norwegian army, but it is still a modern and effective weapon that will be of great use to UkraineNorwegian Defense Minister Bjørn Arild Gram said in the statement.

“Other countries have also donated similar weapons systems,” he added.

Since the beginning of the Russian invasion, on February 24, Norway has already supplied Ukraine some 4,000 M72 anti-tank weapons and other light military equipment.
