They found a Venezuelan dead just days after arriving in the United States

Authorities found a 25-year-old Venezuelan woman dead last Sunday in the town of Charlotte, in North Carolina, USA. The woman arrived only a few days before to that country from Argentina, although she was originally from El Tigre, Anzoátegui state.

According to information from Univision North Carolina, the Venezuelan was identified as Maria Esperanza Diaz Mendozawho went out with a friend on Saturday.

The Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department (CMPD) said officers found the woman unconscious last Sunday, April 24, around 8:18 am at a residence on Glasgow Green Lane in Charlotte. It was an uninhabited house.

“All relief measures were exhausted, but the victim was declared dead”reported Mike Allinger, CMPD public information specialist.

The authorities handle the hypothesis that the cause of death was an overdose of narcotic substances. However, they clarified that the investigation is still active.

After the disclosure of the fact in the media, the CMPD issued this Thursday afternoon a releasein which he highlighted that normally he does not offer details on investigations related to overdose, but that given the questions, he would allow himself to communicate that there are no indications of murder.

He added that, at the moment, everything points to an accidental overdose, although they are waiting for the toxicology reports. Here is the full statement:

It is not normal procedure for the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department (CMPD) to proactively provide additional information regarding drug overdose death investigations.

In response to questions from the community and the media about the death of María Esperanza Díaz-Mendoza, the CMPD provides the following information:

CMPD has conducted a thorough initial investigation and continues to work with the Office of the Medical Examiner to further investigate the death of Ms. María Esperanza Díaz-Mendoza.

We are awaiting toxicology reports, and at this time there is no evidence of foul play in the death of Ms. María Esperanza Díaz-Mendoza. All the evidence in this case is consistent with the death of Ms. María Esperanza Díaz-Mendoza apparently being an accidental overdose.
