Communicator and journalist Francisca Sandoval, who was shot by a group of radicals while reporting on a May 1 demonstration in a neighborhood in downtown Santiago de Chiledied this Thursday after 12 days fighting for his life in the hospital, medical sources informed Efe.
Sandoval was shot in the head during the disturbances generated in the meiggs neighborhood by violent groups, apparently linked to the mafias that operate in the area and that take advantage of both street vending and the exploitation of migrants, when reporting for the local media Channel 3 La Victoria.

Days later, members of the State security forces arrested the alleged perpetrator of the shot, identified as Marcelo Naranjo, who remains in preventive detention and could be charged with intentional homicide.
The armed incident created a great commotion in Chile to the point that the Government condemned the act and the President of the Republic, Gabriel Boric, traveled days ago to the hospital center of the Ex Posta Central to inquire about the journalist’s condition, 31 years old, and comfort his friends and family.
From different forums in the interior of Chile, the Security forces, in particular the Carabineros and the Investigative Police (PDI), are required to increase their combat with the different organized crime gangs that have settled in the country, dedicated to to all kinds of illegal trafficking, from weapons to drugs and people.
An increase in criminal activity that has spurred crime and spread a sense of greater insecurity.
