Biden calls Guaidó to clarify that he recognizes him as president of Venezuela, but did not invite him to the Summit of the Americas

The American President, Joe Bidencalled this Wednesday the Venezuelan opposition leader Juan Guaido to reaffirm that it continues to recognize him as interim president of Venezuelaamid the controversy over absences at the Summit of the Americas held in Los Angeles (USA).

The White House said in a statement that The call served to “underline” that the United States considers Guaidó as the interim president of the country since 2019 and that the 2015 National Assembly was the last democratically elected body.

Also, Biden expressed “his support for the negotiations” between the Maduro government and the opposition Unitary Platform “as the best path for a peaceful restoration” of free elections and fundamental freedoms in the country.

and reiterated that USA is willing to “shade its policy of sanctions” towards Venezuela as progress is made in the dialogue process between the Maduro government and the opposition.

the ninth Summit of the Americaswhich starts this Wednesday and will end on Friday, is marked by the decision of the United States to exclude the governments of Cuba, Venezuela and Nicaragua, because it does not consider them democratic.

The White House did not clarify until the last minute if it was going to invite Guaidó, who ultimately will not participate in the conclave.
