The cyclone, which emerged as a tropical storm on Tuesday and evolved into category 1 hurricane on Wednesday, it registers maximum sustained winds of 140 kilometers per hour, gusts of 165 kilometers per hour and a displacement speed towards the west-northwest of 13 kilometers per hour.

Although it is not expected to make landfall, The hurricane will also leave “intense” rains in Guerrero, “very strong” in areas of Nayarit and showers in Sinaloa.

It will also cause gusts of wind of 70 to 80 kilometers per hour and 50 to 60 kilometers per hour with waves of three to four meters high on the coast of Colima, Guerrero, Jalisco and Michoacan.

“The rainfall could generate landslides, increase in the levels of rivers and streams, and overflows and floods in low-lying areas, for which the population is urged to attend to the warnings,” the notice from the NMS.

In addition to Blas, the agency monitors a low pressure zone located south of Chiapas with an 80% probability of cyclone development in the 48-hour forecast.

This phenomenon is approximately 435 kilometers south-southeast of the mouth of the Suchiate River, on the border between Mexico and Guatemala.

In most of the country there will be rains due to this combination of the low pressure zone with a high probability for cyclonic development, extended low pressure channels in different regions and instability in the upper atmosphere, and the contribution of humidity generated by the circulation of Blas .

Blas arrives after Agatha, the first cyclone of the 2022 Pacific season, that hit on May 30 as a category 2 hurricane on the coast of the state of Oaxaca (south), one of the poorest areas of the country, where it caused nine deaths and several disappeared.

In mid-May, the Mexican authorities reported that they anticipate the formation of up to 40 named cyclones by 2022, which they described as an “active season”, and predicted that of the total number of tropical cyclones generated, both in the Atlantic and in the Pacific, at least five impact the country.
