Finchwho has held the position for 11 months, tendered his resignation to the president Ivan Duke in a letter in which he stated that he will remain in charge of the embassy in Washington until next August 6, one day before the investiture of Petro.

“I have worked with several presidents and governments, but my service has always been to our extraordinary Colombian people, always putting Colombia above all else. In that sense, through this communication I present my resignation dated August 6, 2022“, he pointed Finch in the missive.

Pinzón, 50, who had already been ambassador to the White House in the Government of Juan Manuel Santos, arrived at the embassy for the second time last year, replacing former Vice President Francisco Santos, with the aim of strengthening relations with Colombia with the United States.

In this sense, he highlighted that during his time in office he achieved “significant achievements” such as the thematic alignment between the governments of the two countries to face the global pandemic of covid-19, climate change and energy transition, migration, and the defense of democracy in the continent and the world”.

He also successfully managed the first meeting between Duque and the US president, Joe Biden, which took place on March 11 in the Oval Office of the White House, as well as the recent celebrations of the 200th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between the two countries.

“It has been a short period full of intensity, and with tangible and convincing progress. We are fulfilling the mission to which we committed ourselves thanks to teamwork with all instances,” Pinzón asserted.
