New York prosecutor asks 30 years in prison for Ghislaine Maxwell for recruiting minors for Jeffrey Epstein

The Manhattan prosecutor’s office in New York has requested a sentence of at least 30 years in prison for Ghislaine Maxwellafter being found guilty of having helped the financier Jeffrey Epstein to recruit minors for sexual encounters, The New York Times reported Thursday.

Maxwell’s lawyers last week asked Judge Alison J. Nathan in writing to impose a sentence of less than 20 years. recommended by the court probation department.

The lawyers suggested in their brief that the prosecution had decided to prosecute the British woman after the suicide of Epstein in jail in 2019 to appease his victims and “repair the tarnished reputation” of the Department of Justice and the Bureau of Prisons, in whose custody the financier died, cites the newspaper.

The defense also suggested that the blame for Maxwell’s conduct rested with Epstein and his father, the late British media mogul Robert Maxwell, whom they said was a cruel and intimidating father.

However, the prosecution dismissed those claims, stating that if anything came out of the sentence of Maxwell it was his inability to address his criminal behavior and his “complete lack of remorse.”

Maxwell He has been in pretrial detention since the summer of 2020 and faced a trial with very media overtones last December given the link of many politicians and celebrities with Epstein.
