Alert for the possible arrival of Hurricane Bonnie in Venezuela, Colombia, the Caribbean and the United States

The National Hurricane Center (NHC) of USA warned about the approach of the possible Hurricane Bonnie to the Colombian Caribbean coast, to the south of the United States and Mexico, since it is moving through the Atlantic Ocean at a speed of 65 kilometers per hour (km / h).

As indicated by NCH, on the night of Tuesday, June 28, Bonnie passed near islands and over some parts of islands such as Guadeloupe, Barbados, Trinidad and TobagoMartinique, Saint Lucia, Aruba, Granada, Dominica, among others.

Later, between Wednesday and Thursday, The storm moves south and will reach the Caribbean Sea, approaching the north coast of Colombia and Venezuela.

Also, Bonnie is estimated to arrive next in the Gulf of Mexicocausing heavy rainfall in the US states of Louisiana and Texas.

As explained by the NCH, the current hurricane season began on June 1 and so far there had only been one storm called Alex, which formed in the Yucatan Peninsula, Mexico -on June 5-, and generated heavy rains in Cuba and southern Florida, United States.

Likewise, the entity argued that the storms that are taking place these days are the consequence of a tropical wave located several kilometers southeast of the island of Cape Verde, in Africa.

On the other hand, the Institute of Hydrology, Meteorology and Environmental Studies (Ideam) predicted that Bonnie’s transit will significantly increase rainfall in the northeastern part of the Colombian Caribbean.

These precipitations could reach their maximum strength in the middle and end of next week. They will mainly affect the regions of Magdalena, Atlántico, Cesar, La Guajira, Bolívar and the Sierra Nevada de Santa Marta.

Also, at the end of next week Storms will also occur in the central and western Caribbean, which includes the archipelago of San Andrés, Providencia, Santa Catalina and the keys.
