“Those who suffered from the disorder were concerned, as they could not leave their doors or windows open. Others found it funny, it’s become a meme.” pointed out the reporter Alessandro Guerra, who shared images of the animal.

He pointed out that the monkey entered the houses and stole clothes, cookies and even boxes of soap powder.

Tired of the pranks of the capuchin monkey, the residents of the town of current They called the authorities, who, accompanied by specialists from the Chico Mendes Institute for the Conservation of Biodiversity (Icmbio), managed to capture the animal.

In a joint action with the Department of the Environment of Corrente, the primate was handed over to the Zoobotanical Bioparka refuge for wild animals in the town of Teresina.

The animal, which they named Chico, now lives with 10 other monkeys of the same species. The doctors who attended him pointed out that he is an adult primate of approximately two years.

Chico will remain in captivity in the Biopark and will follow a recovery treatment to return to nature in a few months, said reporter Alessandro Guerra.

“We observe how it is feeding, mainly the social aspects, how it integrates with the other monkeys. With this rehabilitation process they manage to recover their instincts, especially when they are like this, in a pack. Capuchin monkeys are very sociable”said biologist Vanessa Gomes, from the Zoobotanical Biopark.

Gomes explained that this species of primates are very sociable and need to integrate to return to nature in a group.

“Chico was lucky because he had media coverage and was rescued,” added the veterinary doctor Fabiano Barbosa, to add that “Here it will be taken care of correctly and it will return to nature. Unfortunately, we have an average of 2 to 4 primates a month in this situation, taken from captivity”commented.

“Let Chico serve as an example for the society of Piauí so that they no longer want to keep these animals in captivity. It is an environmental crime. They need to be free.”Barbosa concluded.
